Livingston Recreation Facilities - Under the terms of the 1964 contract between TRA and Houston that
produced Lake Livingston, the Authority was able to purchase 26 sites containing 2,463
acres of land adjacent to the lake for recreational development.
With the assistance of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department,
five of those sites have
been developed as public boat ramps to provide free public access to the lake. In 1971, TRA issued recreation revenue bonds for
the purpose of funding construction of Wolf Creek Park, a full service recreation facility
in San Jacinto County.
Since 1994 three bathroom/shower facilities have
been removed and replaced at Wolf Creek Park.
It was also necessary to replace 640 feet of aluminum sheet bulkhead. The damage occurred
when a heavy rain saturated the soil behind the aluminum bulkhead at the same time the
lake level was at its lowest. Without water pressure against the lake side of the bulkhead, the saturated soil caused the bulkhead to bulge
fail.
During 2007 Wolf Creek Park celebrated its 35th
year of operation. The park fully recovered from the damage incurred
by Hurricane Rita and the low lake levels for most of 2006.
Increases in visitation and revenue
occurred despite heavy rainfall and minor flooding throughout the area
during the high usage months of June and July.
Wolf Creek Park, in collaboration with the
Coldspring Chamber of Commerce, hosted the 2007 Rod Run (car show) that
drew entries and visitors from all over the state.
During 2007 the park began efforts to provide
electricity to 19 campsites that formerly afforded just water to campers.
With this upgrade scheduled for completion in early 2008, campers can
choose from 63 campsites that offer water and electricity, in addition to
39 campsites with water, electricity and sanitary sewer.
