Manganese in Treated Water
Delivered by the Trinity River Authority
Arlington-The presence of
higher than normal manganese in treated water
distributed to Bedford, Colleyville, Euless,
Grapevine and North Richland Hills by the Trinity
River Authority of Texas has caused a light yellow
or brown color to be noticeable in some of the water
being delivered.
Manganese is an essential trace
nutrient for plants and animals and poses no health
risk to humans. Manganese is also a naturally
occurring substance and is present in the lake water
treated by TRA.
This condition has occurred in
past years and may also be associated with taste and
odor issues. Ozone disinfection equipment is
currently being installed in the TRA water treatment
facility which will significantly reduce future
water staining and taste and odor
incidents.
While undesirable, manganese
poses only aesthetic problems, which will ultimately
pass through the distribution system and no longer
be noticeable by the public.
