River Authority Warns Public About Under Water
Hazards
Livingston-The Trinity River Authority wants to
alert the public that the lowered surface elevation
of Lake Livingston has exposed a large number of
under water hazards such as standing timber, stumps
and other objects. The low lake level has brought a
great many more hazards closer to the surface.
All users of
the lake should be aware of this lower lake level
and take appropriate caution while on or in the
water. This includes being aware of water depths at
all times and watching for submerged objects that
may become a hazard to boating and other
recreational use of Lake Livingston.
All lake
area residents also need to be aware that State law
prohibits the use of recreational motorized vehicles
on the dry lake bed that has been exposed due the
lowering of the reservoir level.
TRA made
emergency releases in response to damage done to
Lake Livingston Dam by Hurricane Rita lowering the
lake’s surface elevation from the normal pool level
of 131 feet above mean sea level to 127 msl. The
lake will remain at this elevation for months while
the damage is being repaired.
