Clean
Rivers Program Supports Governor Perry’s Trinity
River Basin Environmental Restoration Project
Arlington – The Trinity River Authority Board of
Directors authorized a special study with the Texas
A&M Institute of Renewable Natural Resources to
develop a Trinity River Internet Mapping System
(TRIMS). This $150,000 study is in support of
Governor Rick Perry’s recently announced Trinity
River Basin Environmental Restoration Initiative (TRBERI).
The
TRBERI is intended to leverage federal dollars for
projects to improve water quality, wetlands
restoration, hardwood restoration, wildlife habitat
and voluntary landowner stewardship.
As part
of this effort TRA will contract with Texas A&M.
The TRIMS system will provide landowners, local
stakeholder organizations and the general public
with an outreach and planning tool for supporting
land conservation and habitat restoration decisions
in the Trinity River Basin.
Users of
the TRIMS system will have access to mapping and
analytical functions similar to a desktop GIS
program without the need for any software other than
an internet browser. The funds are being provided
by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality
Clean Rivers Program.
