PIPELINE RUPTURE CAUSES OVERFLOW IN TRINITY RIVER AUTHORITY WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEM

(ARLINGTON, TEXAS) – A Trinity River Authority wastewater collection system pipeline ruptured causing a wastewater overflow within its Central Regional Wastewater System. The overflow was reported to TRA at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 17, for the pipeline located at 1749 Hardy Road in Grand Prairie, Texas. The overflow of wastewater spilled into a small tributary that flows into Mountain Creek Reservoir. Recent heavy rains that have occurred in the area contributed to the overflow and heavily diluted the spill.

Following notification, TRA repair crews and contractors were mobilized to stop the overflow and begin emergency repairs, which are estimated to be completed this afternoon.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requires all wastewater overflows in excess of 100,000 gallons to be reported to TCEQ, the public and other designated public officials. The final estimated quantity of the overflow will be reported to TCEQ.

No public drinking water supplies were threatened or contaminated by this overflow. TRA has notified all required city, county and state officials.
